Job Title: Health & Safety Specialist

Pay Range: $19.00 to $21.64

Position Summary:

The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the program's implementation of comprehensive health and safety services. This includes regular collaboration with program staff, families, and community health and safety services.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure timely completion of student hearing and vision screenings, as well as communication of results with families
  • Ensure compliance with completion and documentation of children's medical and dental examinations and records
  • Coordinate internal and external health referral processes
  • Ensure adequate program preparation for children with identified health needs
  • Collaborate with families and program staff to develop Individual Health Plans (IHP) when appropriate
  • Collaborate with community to enhance program services
  • Monitor accident reports, facility safety, emergency preparedness, and preventative health practices
  • Complete monthly reports and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Bauer Policies, State Licensing, and Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Attend twice-monthly staff meetings, monthly Professional Development Days, quarterly All-Agency meetings, and annual Pre-Service

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skill required. The individual must be able to successfully pass routine background checks.

Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • Bachelor's degree in health services, nursing, or other related field
  • Previous Head Start experience preferred
  • Must have a valid Indiana driver's license and the ability to meet insurance carrier requirements at all times

Experience Required:

  • 2-3 years previous experience

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Commitment to serving children and families in poverty with the highest quality services
  • Willingness to learn and apply new knowledge
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and Early Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT)
  • Familiarity with immunization standards and healthcare best practices for children
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organization and time management
  • Basic math skills
